This is a plain language summary of a clinical research study called RAPID. The study looked at the potential for how safe and effective etripamil was at stopping an episode of rapid heartbeats in people with atrioventricular-nodal-dependent supraventricular tachycardia (AV-node-dependent SVT). An episode is used to describe the period of time when a person experiences an abnormally very fast heartbeat. This was done by comparing an investigational drug called etripamil with a placebo, each administered via a rapidly acting nasal spray.

The EMPEROR-Preserved study looked at the effects of empagliflozin in participants with heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). This is when the lower left part of the heart (left ventricle) squeezes normally or near normally but does not fill with enough blood between heartbeats. Therefore, not enough blood is pumped around the body. For this study, HFpEF was defined as a condition in which more than 40% of blood in the left ventricle was pumped around the body.

The effect of empagliflozin in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, with and without diabetes: a plain language summary

his summary describes a study of a new pill for treating chronic heart failure called empagliflozin (brand name Jardiance®). The study is called EMPEROR-Preserved and was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Chronic heart failure is a condition where the heart does not pump blood around the body properly. Heart failure causes symptoms such as shortness of breath, tiredness and build-up of too much water in the body (fluid retention). These symptoms often need hospital treatment and increase the risk of early death

Plain language summary of the EMPEROR-Preserved : drug treatment with empagliflozin was beneficial in people with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

This is a summary of the article describing the EMPEROR-Reduced study of empagliflozin, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Empagliflozin (brand name Jardiance®) is a new drug therapy for the treatment of chronic heart failure. Chronic heart failure is a long-term condition where the heart cannot pump enough blood around the body, leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue and build-up of too much water in the body (fluid retention). It also increases the risk for premature death

A plain language summary of the EMPEROR-Reduced study: drug treatment with empagliflozin lowered risk for hospitalization in people with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction

This is a plain language summary of an article originally published in the journal Blood Pressure Monitoring. Vibegron is a medicine that was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (also called FDA) in 2020 for treatment of overactive bladder, a condition that causes a frequent and urgent need to urinate. This study took place before the medicine was approved to look at whether vibegron affects blood pressure or heart rate

The effect of vibegron on the blood pressure and heart rate in people with overactive bladder: a plain language summary

Here, we summarize the results from the INCREASE study, originally published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The INCREASE study looked at how well a medication called inhaled treprostinil works and how safe it is, compared to placebo (a fake medication), in adults who have pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease or PH-ILD.

A Plain Language Summary on the INCREASE study: inhaled treprostinil (Tyvaso) for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension due to interstitial lung disease

This is a summary of the article describing the results of the ORION-10 and ORION-11 studies, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in April 2020. The studies included adult participants with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). ASCVD happens when the blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to other areas of the body are blocked by fatty build-up (plaque) causing a heart attack, stroke, or other problems. High levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) in the blood can cause this fatty build-up. ORION-11 also included participants who were at high risk for ASCVD due to other conditions or high cholesterol that runs in the family
